Henkel’s complete Oral Care tube portfolio will be fully recyclable by early 2021

While toothpaste tubes are being used by millions of consumers every day, not many may know that today’s classical tubes couldn’t be recycled so far – their multi-layer construction poses a challenge for recycling facilities. This is about to change: In line with its packaging targets and commitment to avoid plastic waste, Henkel converts its entire Oral Care tube portfolio to fully recyclable tubes produced by its packaging supplier Albéa. The transition, to be concluded across all Oral Care brands beginning of next year, will be pioneered by the Spanish toothpaste brand Licor del Polo.

Henkel first company to conclude a plastic waste reduction bond

Henkel takes another step in combining attractive corporate financing instruments with progress in sustainability: As the first company globally, Henkel concluded a plastic waste reduction bond. The proceeds from this bond, a private placement with Japanese insurance companies Dai-ichi Life and Dai-ichi Frontier Life, will be specifically allocated to projects and expenditures related to Henkel’s activities to reduce plastic waste. The bond has a total volume of 70 million US dollars and a maturity of five years.

By 2025, 100 percent of Henkel's packaging will be recyclable or reusable*.

Henkel will reduce fossil-based virgin plastic by 50 percent

Henkel is stepping up its commitment for sustainability and has set further ambitious packaging targets for 2025 to promote a circular economy. By then, 100 percent of Henkel's packaging will be recyclable or reusable* and the company will reduce fossil-based virgin plastics by 50 percent in its consumer goods packaging. Additionally, Henkel wants to contribute to avoiding plastic waste being disposed in the environment.

All Perwoll bottles in Western Europe with 25 percent recycled plastic

Together with packaging manufacturer ALPLA, Henkel has achieved a further step in its activities in the field of sustainable packaging: From now on Perwoll bottles in Western Europe will not only be fully recyclable, but also contain 25 percent recycled PE ‏(polyethylene) from post-consumer sources as standard.
